Multiply ingredients by 2.5 to cook for five from a two-serving recipe. Working out fractions first makes shopping and measuring easier.
Desired servings ÷ original servings
5 ÷ 2 = 2.5, so 200 g potatoes becomes 500 g, 100 mL milk becomes 250 mL, and 1/2 tsp salt becomes 1.25 tsp. The scaler accepts fractions such as 1/2 and 1 1/2 directly.
Why cups aren't converted to grams
A cup of flour and a cup of milk weigh differently. Cup standards and packing methods vary too. The tool keeps the original units without guessing density. Use a scale and the recipe's measuring standard for precision.
What about 2.5 eggs?
For hard-to-divide ingredients, check the recipe's reference weight, mix and portion by weight. Rounding changes proportions, which matters especially in baking.
Is cooking time also 2.5 times longer?
Time and temperature don't scale like ingredients. Pan area, ingredient thickness, pot depth and heat all matter. Consider cooking in batches or using larger cookware, and check actual doneness.
Season gradually
Use calculated seasoning as a guide and taste as you go rather than adding it all at once. “To taste” ingredients stay as text. This tool helps with proportions but doesn't guarantee the final dish.
